Standards compliance

This website has been configured using tab indexes which allow it to be navigated more easily by keyboard, for those who cannot or prefer not to use a pointing device.

We make every effort to ensure that our entire website complies with priority 1 guidelines of the W3 Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, United States Federal Government Section 508 Guidelines (often used outside the United States as a common set of guidelines for making accessible websites) and the Disability Discrimination Act. However the nature of a constantly updated site is that we may sometimes make a mistake - please let us know as soon as possible if you find any accessibility errors. We strive to ensure that every page in the website validates as HTML 5 and valid CSS.

Every effort has been made to ensure that the above statements are true and correct at the time of posting. If you find otherwise please contact us .

Tab indexes

This website has been configured using tab indexes which allow it to be navigated more easily by keyboard, for those who cannot or prefer not to use a pointing device.

Links and images

For the benefit of those using text browsers or screen readers, images that are not simply structural or decorative have been configured throughout the site with alternative text which describes them in greater detail.

Links have also been configured with alternative text where useful and they have been specifically designed to be understandable regardless of context, i.e. wherever the link may appear in the website, it will be clear where it leads to, and why it might be useful to click on it. This should benefit alternate browsers and screen readers such as JAWS which are able to build lists of all the links on a page.

Javascript has been used only minimally in the website. Where it is used, it is not required to utilise a feature of the site; a non-javascript alternative is always available.

Resizable design, contrast and colours

Most text has been configured in relative sizes so that it can be resized to suit the viewer, although most modern browsers now support "Zoom" functionality that should increase text size without disrupting the page structure. The colours used should offer an adequate contrast balance. Text sizes and weights (e.g. bold) have been used in addition to colours, or instead of colours, so that viewers who suffer from colour blindness can still easily differentiate headings and other important text.
